this may be a strange post, but i just wanted to acknowledge my parents in the most public forum i could think of, and since the days of the town crier are gone and i can’t afford to take out an ad in the ny times, this was the best i could think of.

i have the best parents in the world. now don’t get mad at me. i’m not saying my parents are better than yours. maybe your parents are tied with mine for the world’s-best-parent title. but nobody’s better.

my mom and dad are leaving today after three months of living with us and helping out with nola. the day after jana was checked into the hospital, they were here. they did laundry, dishes, cooked, took the boys to school, played sports with ‘em until their legs were sore, spent a ridiculous amount of money on food, cleaned out our garage, my mom lined every drawer and shelf in our kitchen with contact paper, my dad stood in line at the dmv for me, for goodness sake! and they did a million other things for us. thank God parents don’t keep a running tab on their children. ours would be in the billions at this point.

ask anyone who knows them, my parents are unusually outstanding people. we couldn’t have survived the last three months without them. so, while maybe it’s weird to post something that doesn’t really affect anyone outside my family, this is my way of shouting it from the (digital) rooftops.
